Beginning tomorrow (WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1), the Department of Nursing at Sul Ross starts accepting applications for its spring 2026 cohort for the Bachelor of Science degree program.
In part, qualifying students must have been admitted to Sul Ross State and have successfully completed all core courses and prerequisites by the end of spring 2026.
The application cycle will remain open until Dec. 1.

At the end of the week, the 4th-annual Big Bend Bluegrass Festival will bring the tradition of bluegrass and other American-roots music to the Big Bend.
Taking place at the Alpine Civic Center, the event encourages the preservation and enjoyment of the music style with free workshops and live performances.
The two-day event starts Friday, October 3 and will feature artists like the Larry Stephenson Band and Purple Hulls.

There’s a new history exhibit at the Jeff Davis County Library in Fort Davis.
“In His Own Words: The Life and Work of César Chávez” documents Chávez’s career that saw him pave the way for better working conditions for American farm workers.
The 22 images featured in the exhibit are from original vintage photos.
The exhibit is free of charge, and will be open through Friday, October 10.

Next week, the Texas Wildlife Association will host a fundraiser to help in the organization’s mission to conserve Texas’ wildlife,natural resources and hunting heritage.
The fundraiser takes place October 17 at the Granada theatre in Alpine with dinner, drinks, raffle prizes, and a live auction.
The event’s guest speaker is Matt Hewitt from Borderlands Research Institute.

The Marfa100, an annual charitable cycling race happening this month (OCTOBER), is looking for volunteers to help with this year’s event.
Organizers are looking for help with race prep, checking in cyclists, working the merch table, running aid stations, and cleaning up after the race.

Later this month, the Sul Ross State University Music Program will host an evening of classical music, featuring pianist Jae-Eun Baek and guitarist Stephen Krishnan.
The concert will be Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m., and will be held in the Studio Theater of the Francois Fine Arts Building on the campus in Alpine.
Admission is free and open to the public.

In November, head to Terlingua for Ken and Joee Barnes’ 30th annual memorial scholarship fundraiser.
There will be a cribbage and horseshoe tournament, BBQ plates and a silent auction – all part of an effort to raise more scholarship funds for students graduating from Terlingua.

En noviembre, visite Terlingua para el 30.º evento anual de recaudación de fondos para becas conmemorativas de Ken y Joee Barnes.
Habrá un torneo de cribbage y herraduras, bbq y una subasta silenciosa, todo como parte de un esfuerzo para recaudar más fondos para becas para los estudiantes que se gradúan de Terlingua.
El evento tendrá lugar el sábado 8 de noviembre en las canchas de herraduras de Ghosttown.
